Update in sign language Café de las Sonrisas on the fire of Jan 2, 2020; Announcement from the Social Center and Foundation of Tío Antonio in Granada, Nicaragua: During the early hours of January 2, 2020, we suffered a terrible and devastating fire at our headquarters. Thankfully no one was injured, but more than 50% of our property was completely destroyed and we are at-risk of losing everything. This tragedy comes at the worst possible time. After facing more than a year of economic crisis in Nicaragua, our resources have been stretched to the limit. Without generous donations, we will be unable to rebuild. The reconstruction of the Center will be very costly and we need your help. Because so many people benefit from the Center, we need to rebuild as soon as possible. Our needs are great and that is why we have created this campaign. Funds will be used for the following: - Hire a team of architects to do a study of the damage to the structure. - Hire construction workers to start work. - Buy materials for the reconstruction - Hire technicians to rebuild the entire electrical system of the building. - Materials and labor for the reconstruction of the roof - More than 400 square meters was totally destroyed - Recover the part of the hammock / macramé workshop that was destroyed To cover all damages and estimated reconstruction costs, our goal is to raise $50,000. Every dollar we collect will go to cover the needs described, and in the event we exceed our goal, funds will be used make additional improvements to the Tio Antonio Social Center.
