Granada Rugby

The re-forming Granada rugby club are currently hosting a team from Canada who are doing a charity tour of Nicaragua. They are donating schoolbooks and stationery, sporting equipment, medical supplies, and other items. They are called The Howlers, and are a great bunch of young people.

There is a tournament tomorrow at The Jockey Club here in Granada, starting at 0800 and finishing around 1700. There will be teams from several areas of Nicaragua, and both men’s, and women’s competitions. It will be a great day, and it would be tremendous if any of you could show up and give support.

There will be a parade of athletes this afternoon, leaving from Plaza Xalteva, at 1700hrs, and marching to the baseball stadium where the athletes will take their oath of sportsmanship. On the strength of the Canadian visiting team, the combined New Zealand and Australian team, and the Nicaraguan regional teams participating, the media have become quite excited by the multiculturalism of the tournament , and will be in Granada this afternoon to cover the event. It would be AMAZING if as many of you could join the march as possible. It will show the world that there are many expats living here, and is therefore a safe destination. This can only lead to a positive result in tourism numbers which will benefit EVERYBODY living here. It will also show support for the burgeoning sport of rugby, and that will be greatly appreciated. Who’s in? Hope you all have a perfect day 🙂 Cheers
