Lake Cocibolca, Nicaragua: One of the top 20 largest lakes in the world and one of two lakes with freshwater sharks in the planet. Situated in Nicaragua, it is the only lake in the world with two volcanoes in it, on Ometepe Island; the two volcanoes (known as Volcán Concepción and Volcán Maderas) are joined by a low isthmus to form one island in the shape of an hourglass
It is one of the few lakes enjoying a great archipelago of over 365 volcanic islands, this is near Granada, where we call these islands isletas.. Lake Cocibolca is the primary fresh water reserve in the Central American region. Home of great and unique biodiversity, this lake is alive and thriving today but not for much longer.
